THD NewsDesk, New Delhi: On September 13, the Applied Biology and Corpometria Institute announced a major breakthrough. While studying the genetics of the androgen receptor in male pattern baldness, a team of scientists discovered a possible treatment for COVID-19.
A potential link has been made between SARS-CoV-2 to infectivity which could spread to androgens. These same hormones implicated in male pattern baldness and prostate cancer.
The team led by Andy Goren and John McCoy from Applied Biology along with other collaborators have published their discovery in the medical journal Dermatologic Therapy. They have named the manuscript, “What Does Androgenetic Alopecia have to do with COVID-19? An Insight into a Potential New Therapy.” It elucidates the possible role of androgens in controlling the infectivity of SARS-CoV-2 in human lung cells.
Dr. Goren made the following statement regarding the project,
“Our earlier discovery potentially links SARS-CoV-2 infectivity to androgens, the same hormones implicated in male pattern baldness and prostate cancer.”
A step forward in the fight for Coronavirus, if successful could be one of the most efficient measures to get out of the Pandemic.
