Cancer Cases will Rise 10% in the next 4 Years

An alarming rise has been notices in the number of cancer cases in women.

THD NewsDesk, BENGALURU: The National Cancer Registry Programme Report 2020 cites growth in cancer cases by almost 10% in the last four years. From 13.9 lakh cases this year, the number of cases are estimated to reach 15.7 lakh by 2025. In 2019, this number was estimated to be 12.6 lakh in 2016 and 13.6 lakh in 2019. This was based on the data collected between 2012 and 2016. 

Cancer-related data was collected from 28 population-based cancer registries and 58 hospital-based cancer registries. As per the data from 2016, more women are seen to be affected by cancer. Further, this is expected to be the trend in the forthcoming years also.

In a report released by the Indian Council of Medical Research and the National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research, Bengaluru, it is estimated that male cancer cases would rise to 6.8 lakh and those of women would be 7.1 lakh in 2020. By 2025, women cancer cases are projected to reach 8.1 lakh and men cancer cases to 7.6 lakh.

Women are seen to be more genetically vulnerable to the fatal disease of cancer. Researches are being conducted to investigate the possible reasons. Meanwhile, many Indian campaigns are being run to disseminate awareness and information about the same amongst the Indian population.
