TATA Main Hospital Adds two New Drugs in Its COVID-19 Treatment

Ivermectin and Doxycycline join the pool of effective medicines.

THD NewsDesk, Jamshedpur: In a recent development in Tata Main Hospital, Tata Main Hospital (TMH) has introduced two additional medicines, Ivermectin and Doxycycline, to its protocol for Covid treatment. On August 18th, the general manager of TMH, Ranjan Chowdhary informed,

Considering limited treatment modalities available for corona-infected patients, Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation and Indian Council for Medical Research approved off-label use of some special medicines,

He added, Tocilizumab, which is a costly drug, will be added to the treatment protocol soon after the consignment arrives.”

The hospital consists of a total of 1,087 beds out of which 661 are occupied by Covid patients, 112 beds for routine isolation, 18 beds for ICU isolation, and 36 beds for ICU Covid. TMH has 83 ventilators for patients with complications.

Several deaths of Covid patients are due to the critical condition of the other diseases such as lung cancer, some kidney ailment or cardiac complications.”, said Chaudhary on being inquired about the death rate at the hospital. He added that not all the deaths at the hospital are due to Covid.

It should be noted that patients arrive at TMH from the districts of Kolhan division, Dhanbad, and Ramgarh. This adds to the incoming number of patients, making it the only hospital treating Covid to keep almost 70 patients under treatment in the state. 

As it happens, 90 Covid patients have lost their lives at the hospital in the past 90 days. Apart from this, the Tinplate Hospital and Jamshedpur Eye also receive support for Covid treatment from TMH.
