Indian regulators scrutinise alleged AstraZeneca shot reaction

• The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) supports an interrogation into a severe reaction of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine.

THDNewsDesk, NEW DELHI: On Sunday, a senior official stated that The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) supports an interrogation into an alleged severe response during AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine test but has found no cause to recommend halting it.

A 40-year-old man stated in a grievance viewed by Reuters that he had undergone severe “neurological and psychological” symptoms after taking the vaccine in a test under the British drugmaker’s partner Serum Institute of India (SII).

Samiran Panda, Head of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases at the ICMR, the research body involved in clinical trials, stated, “There was no immediate cause of concern at this stage.”

“It doesn’t mean that long term assessment will not happen; it is still happening. I am aware of the activity.”

Law firm N.G.R. Prasad & R. Rajaram Advocates sent the charge by the unnamed volunteer, who is soliciting 50 million rupees ($676,288) in return and a halt of trial, production, and administration of the vaccine, to ICMR, SII, AstraZeneca, and the Drugs Controller General of India.

SII stated, “While the Serum Institute of India is sympathetic with the volunteer’s medical condition, there’s no correlation with the vaccine trial.”

It further added, “the medical team specifically informed (The) volunteer that the complications he suffered were independent of the vaccine trial he underwent.”

The Drugs Controller General of India, who is liable for drug and vaccine permission, could not be contacted for his comments.
