THD NewsDesk, KARNATAKA: Taking inspiration from the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model of Kerala, the Karnataka state government has declared its goal of establishing RT-CPR testing labs in the same manner. The Medical Education Minister of Karnataka, K. Sudhakar, announced the Karnataka government’s decision to increase testing three-fold and establish RT-CPR labs in the Public-Private Partnership model.

Aspiring to ramp up the testing facilities for Covid-19 in the state, the government announced its decision to start the tender process on October 2. The Health and Medical Education departments will soon be floating tenders to invite bids for setting up labs equipped to carry out RT-PCR tests, Karnataka Minister K Sudhakar said in an official statement.

The Medical Education Minister further elucidated that every possible step is being taken to expand the scope of testing statewide. So far, the state has created a record by having conducted 50 lakhs COVID-19 tests, and the state government is aiming to take the number of daily tests a notch higher to 1.5 lakh, he added.

Aiming to carry out 5000 tests per day, the Minister had recently inaugurated the new Covid testing lab by Eurofins Clinical Genetics India (ECGI) in Whitefield. Till now, Karnataka has established 144 labs that offer testing services in the past six months.

Karnataka’s total figure of positive cases stands at an alarming 6.11 lakh, whereas the COVID mortality in the state is relatively low, at 1.52%

The positive cases in Karnataka are witnessing a constant hike, and the toll on Thursday stood at 8944 cases.

The government has taken the task of flattening the coronavirus curve-rate upon itself by introducing stringent penalties of up to Rs 1,000 for not wearing masks at public places.
