Oxygen pipeline system to be established in sub-divisional hospitals; say Bihar Govt officials

THD NewsDesk, New Delhi: The city met with an escalating number of Covid-19 cases after migrants’ return. Bihar is determined to establish the Medical Gas Pipeline System for oxygen supply in every 16 sub-divisional hospitals in the next three months.

The state government has ordered medical supplies for the next two years, including 3.5 million strips of hydroxychloroquine tablets. They would also provide walk-in-kiosks for all the district hospitals to receive Covid-19 specimens from patients, like Kerela.

The Medical Gas Pipeline System for oxygen supply will be provided to all its sub-divisional hospitals, as stated by a senior State Government official. It will be accessible to all the sub-divisional hospitals in Banmankhi, Forbesganj, Benipur, Mahua, Rajauli, Maharajganj, Dumraon, and Jainagar, among others. This step was taken, keeping in mind the increasing Covid-19 cases across Bihar. Currently, medical oxygen is accessible in some of the pre-eminent hospitals in the State. A senior state government official said, “The work will be allotted with a three-month deadline.”

In Bihar, Positive cases increased to 2,643, with 1,900 being active cases, while the death number stood at 13. State Health Minister Mangal Pandey stated 733 people had recovered with increasing the recovery rate in the State. In the past three weeks, over 1,500 of the active cases are migrants who have retreated to Bihar in large numbers.

Bihar summoned tenders for the stocks of drugs for different healthcare facilities. According to the state government record, a copy was discerned by Economic Times, “in view of the pandemic emergency situation prevailing due to novel coronavirus.”

The order will provide 50 different kinds of drugs over the next two years, including hydroxychloroquine. Bihar Government stated that it would order 3.5 million strips of that drug. The drug has been supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for decreasing the possibility of getting infected with Covid-19. Though, the World Health Organization urged opposing its use. Recently, in a report, ICMR increased the use of antimalarial drugs. Bihar requires the packaged drugs with a logogram on their packing — ‘Bihar government supply — not for sale’— according to the document.

Bihar is also planning to install walk-in kiosks for contact-less testing of Covid-19 patients. Kerala became the first State to introduce them to assure the medical staff’s safety while taking samples.
