Rajasthan soon to have its first Organ Donor Memorial

The organ memorial was inaugurated today on National Organ Donation Day by CM Ashok Gehlot

THD NewsDesk, Jaipur: CM Ashok Gehlot inaugurated Rajasthan’s first organ memorial situated near Central Park, SMS Hospital Road in the city on November 27.

On the occasion of National Organ Donation Day, the organ memorial was inaugurated through a virtual event on November 27.

To felicitate organ donors and to recognise their priceless contribution in saving the lives of 120 people across Rajasthan, Mumbai and Delhi, their names will be inscribed on the memorial.

“The organ donors’ memorial will keep encouraging people on the theme of ‘Ek khamoshi-anek muskaan, aaokarein angdaan’, for organ donation,” said Rajiv Arora, founder chairman, MFJCF.

Since the cadaver donation in 2015, 38 more families have donated their organs of their relatives once they were declared brain dead. This has been a result of the awareness spread by counsellors in hospitals and NGOs who motivated the families to donate organs.

“The memorial will send a message that doesn’t take your organs to heaven. Heaven knows they are needed on earth,” said Bhavna Jagwani, convenor, MFJCF.

“We wait in line at the grocery store, a doctor’s clinic, but nothing is quite like waiting for a lifesaving organ. You can help by registering as an eye and tissue donor today,” said Govind Gurbani, member, MFJCF.

The structure was established with the idea of acknowledging the aware people of Rajasthan who chose to donate the organs of their dear ones. The memorial’s structure is inspired by the architecture of Jaipur’s iconic Jantar Mantar. The Mohan Foundation Jaipur Cultural Forum (MFJCF) and Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) had collaborated on this project to celebrate life.
