SII initiates India’s biggest vaccine rollout with 55L doses

"The transport exercise for the remaining doses will continue till Wednesday evening."

TheNewsDesk: The shipment of Serum Institute of India’s Covishield was set out with a motto-“May all be free from disease.” It will be taken from Pune to other parts of India on Tuesday. It will be kickstarting the largest rollout of a vaccine in the country’s history.

The four major regional depots for Covid-19 vaccines are-
Delhi,
Chennai,
Kolkata,
Hyderabad

On Tuesday, they took their quantum of Covishield shots within 10 hours since their dispatch began from the SII premises at 4.30 am. Officials confirmed that approximately 55 lakh of the total 1.1 crore doses had been forwarded from the SII premises till 5 pm. A senior SII official said, “The transport exercise for the remaining doses will continue till Wednesday evening.”

On Tuesday, other cities like Patna, Guwahati, Vijaywada, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, and Chandigarh also took their sanctioned doses by air.

On Tuesday evening, while the following states took a part of their quota for the first phase of vaccination.

Tamil Nadu,
Telangana,
Andhra Pradesh,
Karnataka,
Jammu & Kashmir,
Assam,
Meghalaya,
Delhi

States like Maharashtra, Haryana, Kerala, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, among others, will get their consignments in the next 24 to 48 hours.

On Wednesday morning, Covaxin doses will reach Hyderabad airport. After that, they will be shipped to around 11 destinations across the country, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Patna, Lucknow, and Jaipur, sources in Bharat Biotech and the aviation industry.
