THD NewsDesk, Ghaziabad: The state’s malaria and vector-borne diseases department has steered Chief Medical Officers of all districts to present a weekly dengue report chikungunya cases to the Centre. The department focused on battling with the pandemic, which hindered the submission of weekly reports. Health departments have been urged to record data from private laboratories.

The additional director’s letter asked for integrated records of both the diseases between January and September this year.

Presently, in Ghaziabad, two patients are receiving treatment at MMG District Hospital. Several cases were also reported in September. The private hospitals are attending various patients of these diseases.

As per the doctors at Columbia Asia Hospital, various patients were diagnosed with dengue in August and September. The statistics show that 10-12 were in August while 5-6 patients were undergoing the treatment in September. Sangeeta Garg, the medical supervisor of Yashoda Hospital (Nehru Nagar), said that three-four cases were recorded last month.

Even in government set-ups, sources claimed that more cases would come to fore if tests were to be conducted. “At present, the entire focus is on COVID, and so, a very limited number of dengue and swine flu screening tests have been done. However, for the past ten days, the IDSP lab is receiving five-six samples for dengue screening per day.”

Dr RP Singh, Physician, MMG District Hospital, said, “Patients who are having fever with chills are asked to undergo malaria test, while those who have low platelet need screening for dengue. People should not take fever lightly as it could be anything from COVID to Dengue to other sorts of influenza.”

Health officials said that they follow the instructions of the Uttar Pradesh Government by initiating a contagious disease prevention campaign. The campaign will be conducted between October 1 and October 31. Disinfection drives will be a part of this movement.

The district will be increasing the testing of these diseases to fight the looming ailments that are slowly affecting human beings.
