THD Newsdesk, New Delhi: The cumulative number of healthcare workers who got vaccinated with the initial portion of Covid-19 vaccines crossed 41 lakh on Tuesday. Gujarat and West Bengal commenced vaccinating frontline workers simultaneously.

The two states – Gujarat and West Bengal – collectively inoculated 19,902 frontline workers on Tuesday. More states are expected to start vaccinating frontline workers this week.

A total of 1,70,585 beneficiaries were vaccinated on Tuesday until late evening, taking 41,20,741 beneficiaries so far.

“Final reports would be completed for the day by late tonight,” the health ministry said.

The government aims to inoculate over 92.61 lakh healthcare workers across the country, minister of state for health Ashwini Choubey told the Rajya Sabha. Of this, around 44% have been vaccinated so far with the first dose. The second dose will be given with a gap of 28 days or four weeks.

The government plans to inoculate the first three crore health and frontline workers on priority by April.

While 3,785 vaccination sessions were carried over the nation on Tuesday, overall, 76,516 sittings have been administered in the last 18 days since the cumbersome drive launch on January 16.

States have been asked to conduct multiple sessions to accelerate the drive.
