THD NewsDesk, Thiruvananthapuram: The health department has published a warning upon a distinct nature of malaria Plasmodium Ovale. Health Minister KK Shailaja declared that the new malaria prototype, which is ordinarily witnessed in western Africa, has been recognized in a patient admitted to the Kannur district clinic.
The patient was confirmed with the signs of malaria, and later on expert analysis, it was pronounced to be a distinct species, which has not been proclaimed earlier in the state. This person had come to the nation from Sudan lately.
However, the minister said there is no necessity for any concern as the patient has been treated, and there is no threat of spread. But the minister said that there needs to be a warning upon this type of disease and therefore has asked all the community medical magistrates to report all the malaria cases being recorded in their regions.
The most common types of malaria reported in the state are Vivax malaria and Falciparum malaria. Falciparum, Malaria, Vivax, Ovale, and Knowlesi are the five types of malaria. Plasmodium ovale is a species of parasitic protozoa that causes tertian malaria in humans.
The disease’s primary indications are headache, joint pain, loss of appetite, and throat pain. In the second stage, there will be a high fever and shivering. The lungs are highly affected in this process.
Prevention is the only and the best option. All the drinking water sources should be kept in the most hygienic conditions, and water should be kept in closed containers.
Mosquitoes should not be allowed to lay eggs in the water bodies adjacent to the households. Also, people should avoid sleeping in open areas.
