Editorial policy
This page sets out how The Healthcare Daily reports, checks and corrects its work.
A business title, not medical advice
We report on the business, operations, money and policy of healthcare. We do not give clinical or patient advice, and nothing we publish should be read as a recommendation to use or avoid any treatment, medicine or device.
Sourcing
Factual claims come from named primary sources: company announcements and filings, regulators, government departments and official statistics. Every story and profile lists its sources. Where a detail comes from another publication or from Wikipedia, we say so.
Clinical and product claims
We report efficacy, safety and approval claims only from the regulator, the peer-reviewed paper or the company filing, and we attribute them. We state the approval status and the jurisdiction. A company’s claim is reported as its claim, not as established fact.
Studies
When we report a study we name the journal, the date, the sample size and who funded it, and we say when a paper is a preprint that has not been peer reviewed.
Rankings and lists
We do not rank hospitals. The Listed 100 shows hospitals that appear on named third-party lists, with each list’s own position, edition and date and a one-line note on its method. We do not add our own quality judgements to hospital profiles.
Announced plans
New hospitals, bed additions, investments and deals are reported as announced plans, with the date they were stated. Figures can change.
Analysis
Where we draw a conclusion from the facts, we label it as our reading. Second opinion carries our analysis and comment.
Patients and images
We do not publish identifiable patient information or patient images. Captions say whether an image is a photograph supplied by the organisation, an architectural rendering or a representative photograph. Representative photographs do not show a real patient or a real clinician at a named hospital.
Commercial content
Advertising and partner content are labelled and kept separate from reporting, and paid links carry a sponsored marker. We raise any advertisement for a prescription medicine or a regulated device with the publisher before it runs. A listing in The Register does not buy coverage.
Company announcements
Organisations can send announcements through the submit news page. An editor checks the sender and the original document before anything is published, and asks for the evidence behind any product claim. Announcements we run are edited for length and style, labelled “Company announcement” and linked to the original. They are not our reporting, and publication cannot be bought.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we correct it and note the change on the page. Report an error through the submit news page.
The Handover
In a hospital, the handover is when one shift tells the next what changed and what to watch. Ours does the same for the business of healthcare, every weekday morning once it launches.
