Cargill invests US$20 million to assist livestock farmers in Rajasthan

Premix plant will support farmers in improving animal health and productivity; investment is part of India’s overall US $240M investment.

THD NewsDesk, Jaipur: Cargill intends to invest the US $20 million (Rs. 140 crores) to set up a greenfield premix plant in Kota, Rajasthan. The proposals were discussed at a meeting between the Cargill team, led by Imre Havasi, managing director for the company’s animal nutrition business in India, and Dr. Subodh Agarwal, Additional chief secretary, Industries, Government of Rajasthan; Shri Gaurav Goyal, commissioner, Investment & NRIs, Government of Rajasthan and other senior government officials.

Cargill attempts to collaborate in Rajasthan’s growth by producing its global food and farming products. The company has strategically decided upon Rajasthan to develop this plant. It is one of the more progressive states globally, allowing a good business environment, quality raw materials, and a strong customer base.

The state-of-the-art plant will be constructed on 15 acres of land in Tathed Village of Kota District. It will highlight a cyclical manufacturing capacity of 7,500 tons of animal nutrition products and supplement to serve customers in the state, entire North India, and export markets.

Cargill’s proposed investment supports the development of the industry, farmers, and communities around Kota. It will also help the animal husbandry sector, including livestock farmers, by generating more than 150 jobs in the region, with direct and indirect employment in the next three to five years.

As Cargill continues to expand and grow our business in the region, we recognize that India is an important and fast-growing feed market,” Havasi said. “We appreciate the Rajasthan government’s support to help Cargill bring our technical know-how in animal nutrition to customers, the industry, and this community through our new premix facility here,” he added.

Cargill Animal Nutrition is a global business unit within Cargill and represents more than 23,000 employees with 280 facilities in 40 countries, serving customers in more than 100 countries. In India, Cargill’s animal nutrition business serves dairy, poultry, shrimp, and fish farmers with value-added products and services in almost every state. Cargill sells its products under some of the best-known animal health and nutrition brands like Bestmin Gold, UTPP, and G-promin.

“This investment is part of Cargill’s US $240 million commitment made in November 2017 through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Indian Ministry of Food Processing Industries. This demonstrates our commitment to growing the agriculture and food processing industry in India while also supporting the Indian government’s initiatives of helping farmers earn higher remuneration,” added Simon George, president, Cargill India.
