THD NewsDesk, Patna: Prominent Bihar leader Kapil Dev Kamat succumbed to the pernicious coronavirus on the night of October 15. At the ripe age of 69, Kamat passed away at AIIMS, Patna where he was put on the ventilator since a week post-testing positive for Covid.

Minister of Panchayati Raj in the JDU government, Kamat was kept under strict medical supervision after being diagnosed with a kidney infection. Kamat was already undergoing dialysis when he got infected with Covid-19. After being put on a ventilator for a week, Kamat ultimately lost his life to the fatal virus.

Though a lesser-known name in Indian politics, Kapil Dev Kamat has contributed tremendously to Bihar’s growth in the social and political spheres. Kamat left an indelible impression in the minds of Bihar’s top leaders throughout his 40 years in politics.

A prior member of the Congress party, Kamat became a JD-U minister and a loyal friend of CM Nitish after contesting the state elections from the JD-U ticket in 2015. Kamat won the elections and was elected as an MLA from the Babubarhi constituency in 2015. Considering Kamat’s deteriorating health, JD-U has fielded his daughter-in-law Meena Kamat from the Babubarhi seat for Bihar Assembly elections 2020. Several famous faces of Bihar graced the prayer ceremony with their presence and offered their deepest condolences to the grieving family, including CM Nitish.
