COVID Cases on a Record Rise in India in first week of August

Over 19 lakh cases reported until August 5

THD NewsDesk, Mumbai: With the country reporting over 19 lakh Coronavirus cases, Wednesday, 5th August marked the 7th consecutive day with over 50,000 coronavirus cases in a single day. States like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Tripura, Manipur, and Puducherry are the states with an ever-increasing number of COVID cases.

More than 5 lakh people are undergoing treatment for COVID, almost 12 lakh people have recovered and 39,000 have succumbed to the disease. On Tuesday itself, 857 people have died.

For the fourth consecutive day, India has recorded more than 30,000 recoveries with 31,991 patients discharged in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra, till now, has the highest number of COVID cases in India, closely followed by Tamil Nadu; on the other hand, both the states recorded a good number of recovered cases as well, with Maharashtra at 12,326 and Tamil Nadu at 6,501 on Tuesday.

The Health Ministry has released data that India’s recovery rate has risen to 67.19%, and the fatality rate drops to 2.13%. all the active cases are either under home supervision or in hospitals. According to the ministry,

“Coordinated implementation of Covid-19 management strategy by the Union and state and UT governments and selfless sacrifice of all frontline healthcare and other workers and Covid-19 warriors across sectors have ensured that the recoveries are continuously on the rise”

In related news, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and former Congress leader, Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar died after having being discharged after the successful treatment of COVID-19. Five-time MLA of the Shiv Sena, Anil Rathod also passed away on August 5th, he had been tested positive for COVID. He contested from the Ahmednagar Constituency. 

The ministry dedicates the falling fatality rates to the hard work of the Center, the states, and the union territories by early detection by increased testing apparatus, and isolation with efficient clinical management.
