Delhi under strict measures until the COVID-19 vaccine is discovered; Satyendar Jain

• The positivity rate was noted at 8.17%, while the death ratio was 1.76%.
• There are 15,755 beds for Covid sufferers in Delhi, of which 10,399 are unoccupied.
• Delhi has been recording over 4,000 Covid cases regularly.

THDNewsDesk: On Sunday, Satyendar Jain, Health Minister, stated that amidst festival season and a weather change, the Delhi government is implementing containment, contact tracing, and quarantine to control Covid-19 status in the city.

Dr. V K Paul, NITI Aayog member, led the high-level specialist committee by recommending that the state government arrange 15,000 cases per day.

On Sunday, Mr. Jain stated, “The expert committee had said that due to cold and the festive season, cases (per day) could spike up to 12,000-14,000. But right now, it’s around 4,000, so the situation is contained. We are focusing on containment, contact tracing, and isolation to tackle the situation. Hence, there will be no relaxation in restrictions unless the vaccine arrives. Masks and social distancing is mandatory. We will continue taking strict precautions.”

In its statement, the board proposed to the Delhi government three reasons, which may direct towards a rise of 15,000 cases per day in the city. The report stated, “Winter months that make respiratory illnesses severe; patients may come from outside to Delhi in large numbers; patients coming from distant areas are likely to get more serious. Besides, with festival gatherings, there could be a sudden rise in cases.” 

For the past two days, Delhi has been recording over 4,000 Covid cases regularly. The city observed 4,136 new cases and 33 deaths on Sunday, bringing the total number to 3,56,656 and the death toll to 6,258. The positivity rate was noted at 8.17%, while the death ratio was 1.76%.

Jain stated that about two-thirds of the beds reserved for Covid-19 cases are free at this instant. There are 15,755 beds for Covid sufferers in the city, of which 10,399 are unoccupied.

16,115 are quarantined, out of 26,744 active cases in the city.

Addressing the national capital’s death ratio in the last ten days, he stated, “In the last ten days, the death toll has been 0.94 percent while the overall fatality ratio stands at 1.77 percent.”

The health minister also announced that schools in Delhi would not resume in the recent future. He stated, “All schools shall remain closed for the time being. We had a discussion regarding the same with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal yesterday.”
