Doctors of NDMC-run hospitals persist on a hunger strike and continued protests

THDNewsDesk, New Delhi:  On Wednesday, doctors from North Delhi Municipal Corporation-run hospitals, extended their distress over pending payrolls, despite the civic body stating “all dues have been cleared”.

Senior doctors associated with the Municipal Corporation Doctors’ Association (MCDA) took an unexpected leave altogether over their pending wages on Monday and started an infinite strike on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the strike persisted despite requests from Jai Prakash, North Delhi Mayor to resume their services as patients were getting afflicted.

On Tuesday, the Mayor had held a press conference with his peer from the two other companies. He later stated, “NDMC today cleared the due salaries of doctors up to September; of safai karamcharis and domestic breeding checkers up to August this year, and of nurses up to July, and health workers up to June”.

On Tuesday, Maruti Sinha, MCDA General Secretary, had stated, “Salaries have not been credited, so our indefinite strike is still on”.

Residents doctors of Hindu Rao Hospital have been suffering over their pending payrolls since the last week of September. It led five of their colleagues on a hunger strike for the past several days. On Wednesday, they persisted in protesting.
