While the World Health Organization (WHO) counseled that patients who have covid-19 – both reinforced and speculated – should have a way to follow-up care if they have tenacious, new, or evolving symptoms as a part of sanctions in its updated clinical administration guidelines.
Evidence was gathered on the post COVID condition, so-called ‘long COVID’, where people who have recovered from covid-19 continue to have longer-term issues like extreme fatigue, persistent cough, and exercise intolerance, the WHO said.
For covid-19 patients at home, WHO suggests using pulse oximetry to measure oxygen levels in the blood. For hospitalized patients taking supplemental oxygen (including high-flow nasal oxygen) or non-invasive ventilation, WHO has suggested positioning patients on their stomachs to increase oxygen flow (awake prone positioning).
The guidelines also include recommendations on using care bundles to systematize care provision for covid-19 patients and a recommendation to favor clinical judgment over models in making decisions for the patient’s care.
The instructions were created by an unconventional panel of authorities, the Guideline Development Group, on the grounds of specified rapid analyses of all possible data.
