Hospital bed occupancy at Jaipur, Jodhpur drops as Covid mortality rate steadily decreases

• Jaipur, Jodhpur, has the maximum number of active cases in Rajasthan.
•  However, patients requiring oxygen support and hospitalization are decreasing.
• Currently, only 33% of hospital beds in these cities are occupied by Covid patients indicating a dip in the mortality rate.

THD NewsDesk, Rajasthan: According to the recent TOI report, the bed occupancy at the hospitals of Jaipur and Jodhpur by Covid-19 patients has seen a steep decrease.

Though the cities have the maximum number of active Covid cases in Rajasthan, only 33% of the hospital beds are currently occupied by coronavirus patients. Medical professionals from Rajasthan consider the dip in hospitalizations rates a positive indicator, suggesting speedy recovery among coronavirus patients.

“On September 24, Rajasthan had 18,993 active cases, with 10,576 people under home isolation while 5,516 were admitted to the hospitals without oxygen while 2,902 were on oxygen support at various hospitals across the state. However, after almost 15 days on October 9, we had 21,398 active cases in the state, out of which 15,719 people are under home isolation, 3,707 are in hospitals across the state without oxygen support, while 1,972 are in hospitals on oxygen support. These figures clearly say that people requiring hospitalization are decreasing,” said Akhil Arora, principal secretary, medical and health. 

Elaborating further on the reason behind the steady decrease in patients requiring oxygen support and hospitalization, Dr. Ajeet Singh, Additional Superintendent, SMS Hospital, said, “There is also a drop in the patients coming with severe pneumonia after Covid-19 which is also indicating that fatality is decreasing. Earlier, people with very mild symptoms were also reserving hospital beds which is no longer the case, so the occupancy at hospitals decreases.”

Further, the medical staff keeping a check on Covid patients undergoing home isolation has reduced the recovery period. It implies that patients are healing from their fever far more quickly than before. The doctors noted that a maximum of three days’ medication is required for the patients to recuperate from the illness compared to the initial 6-day recovery timespan. In addition to that, patients complaining of severe pneumonia are also decreasing steadily.
