THDNewsDesk, Hyderabad: The Indian insurance regulator has granted renewal, migration, and portability of Covid-19 related regular health insurance policies like Corona Kavach, Corona Rakshak, and Group Corona Kavach Policy.
This step might help to increase the sale of other health policies.
On Tuesday, a circular published by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has stated that the insurers can enable renewal, migration, and portability of the mentioned policies.
As per IRDAI, revision of the policies is allowed for three and a half months, six and half months, or nine and a half months according to the policyholder’s discretion.
The IRDAI stated that the insurance cover would be constant, and there wouldn’t be any 15-day waiting period.
The IRDAI added, at the time of renewal, if the policyholder needs to raise the sum insured, the waiting period will be proffered only for the increased sum insured and not for the entire policy.
Policies like the Corona Kavach and Corona Rakshak could be renewed until March 31, 2021.
As per the regulator, under Corona Kavach’s policies, insurers can allow mobility to different health insurance policies.
Regarding group covers, insurers can provide mobility to other health insurance policies when they leave the group or the police cease.
If migrating, the waiting period will be shielded for the insureds under the group or individual policies.
The IRDAI has also admitted the transferability of Corona Kavach policies from one insurer to another with safety to waiting periods.
Corona Kavach’s policies to other overall health insurance policies are allowed until the expiration of the Corona Kavach policy for all migration/portability of group/individual.
