THD NewsDesk, THIRUVANANTPURAM: India’s first-ever dedicated Covid-19 hospitals since the pandemic began was inaugurated in Kerala’s Kasargod by CM Pinarayi Vijayan. The hospital built by the Tata Group had its inauguration ceremony on 9th September wherein Vijayan lauded the Tata Group for successfully finishing off the project amidst a pandemic.
Kerala government collaborated with the Tata Group to establish a 551-bed hospital furnished with 36 ventilators for the patients. The project cost the government 60 crores and took over five months for it to materialize. The facility designed with the purpose of catering to coronavirus patients has been built on five acres of land of Thekkil village in the Kasargod district.
“The COVID hospital constructed by the Tata group, which will take care of the people during the pandemic, is an excellent example of how Public-Private Partnership can be put to good use,” said Vijayan expressing his pleasure at the fruition of their plan.
Since the hospital facility comes under the joint sector, the powers regarding the appointment of staff and selection of facilities to be provided rest with the government.
Kerala has had 95, 916 corona cases so far, yet with its conscious efforts to encourage testing and its robust public health, it was one of the first states which were able to bend the curve rate. On the 100th day of confirmation of the first case of Covid in Kerala, CM Vijayan announced that the state had flattened the curve rate and was prepared for the second wave too.
On the same day, the largest CFLTC (Covid First-Line Treatment Centre) in Kerala was also opened at Thrissur. The building of Emmay Projects (India) Private Limited was utilized to set up the 1400-bed facility. CFLTC provides all the modern-day healthcare facilities from e-robots and telemedicine to e-bikes for food distribution among patients.
The Tata Group was also chosen to upgrade four government hospitals into Covid-19 treatment centers in UP and Maharashtra.
