Narendra Modi to visit the Serum Institute of India

Prime Minister will review the mechanism of COVID-19 vaccine production and distribution

THD NewsDesk, Pune: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will tour the Pune-based Serum Institute of India on Saturday, partnered with global pharma titan AstraZeneca and the Oxford University for Covid-19 vaccine, a senior executive said on Thursday. The Central Drug Standard Control Organisation has awarded approval for the production of the Covid-19 vaccine for the pre-clinical test, examination, and critique to seven firms, two of which are the Serum Institute of India and the Gennova Biopharmaceuticals. “We have received a confirmation about PM Modi’s visit to the Serum Institute of India on Saturday,” Pune Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao said.

“The PM will arrive at the Pune airport at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. He will attend the scheduled program at the Serum Institute of India from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., where he will review the mechanism of Covid-19 vaccine production and its distribution,” he said.

A Special Protection Group team has arrived in the city for security management. The local machinations, the police, fire unit, branches of revenue, PWD, and health coordinate. On Tuesday, Rao said there was a likelihood of the PM’s visit to Pune. It would be to review the vaccine candidate’s standing for coronavirus infection and investigate its launch, making, and dissemination tools. Rao had also apprised that representatives and envoys from 100 nations would visit the Serum Institute of India and the Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd. here on Dec. 4.
