THD NewsDesk, Wilmington: On November 16, recently elected US President Joe Biden cautioned the incumbent Trump government of the imminent threat from coronavirus. Biden expressed his displeasure when former US President Donald Trump refused a smooth takeover.
Biden feels the obstacles created over the White House transition by Trump may cost many lives due to the lack of a strong vaccination program. He was reported saying that “more people may die” of coronavirus in the absence of a well-strategized immunization program.
On November 3, Biden emerged as the triumphant victor of the 2020 US Presidential elections. However, the incumbent US President Trump has not taken his defeat well and has refused to acknowledge the Democrat Joe Biden as the new President. Consequently, the hostile behavior on the part of Trump has left the Biden team helpless on significant national security issues and health emergencies like the Covid pandemic. The lack of continuity may hinder effective solutions for a distribution plan for COVID-19 vaccines for American citizens.
Asking for a press conference, Biden said,
“If we have to wait until (inauguration day) January 20 to start that planning, it puts us behind for a month, a month and a half. And so it’s important that it be done, that there be coordination now.”
Moreover, Biden is found promoting Moderna’s experimental vaccine that has an effectiveness rate of 94.5%. Expressing his confidence in the vaccines developed by Moderna and Pfizer, Biden said,
“I wouldn’t hesitate to get the vaccine if, in fact, Dr. Fauci and these two organizations – whether it’s Moderna or Pfizer, who have been extremely responsible – conclude that it is safe and able to be done.”
“The only reason people question the vaccine now is because of Donald Trump,” said Biden, pointing fingers at the ineptitude of Trump in managing the spread of the health crisis.
He emphasized that he would be the first one to take the vaccine if health advisors approve it.
“They appear to be ready for prime time, ready to be used, and if that continues along that road, I will take the vaccine,” said Biden.
Amidst the surging Covid cases, experts including former Trump administration officials have advised against challenging the election results in court as it could further spread the pandemic. Currently, the US struggles with an alarmingly high number of 11 million confirmed infections and 246,000 fatalities. Adding to the impediments that lie ahead of the newly-elected government, Trump’s health advisor Scott Atlas appealed to Michigan’s people to “rise” against COVID-19 measures.
