The Mudhaibi Health Polyclinic opened in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, on 14 October 2026, according to a statement from Oman’s Ministry of Health. The opening was held under the patronage of H.E. Zaher bin Salim Al Salmi, Deputy Chairman of the State Financial and Administrative Audit Authority.
The polyclinic has 16 specialised and general clinics and serves about 34,229 people across 26 villages, the ministry said. Its services include general medical care, laboratory and radiology, pharmacy, oral and dental health, antenatal care and birth spacing, child health and immunisation, chronic disease programmes, health promotion, physiotherapy, elderly care and home healthcare. The building houses a medical laboratory, a physiotherapy unit, an X-ray room, a pharmacy, a meeting hall and administrative offices.
Construction began in 2024, and health services in the wilayat date back to 1978, according to the ministry. It did not disclose the construction cost, the contractor, the funding source, staffing numbers or expected patient volumes.
Part of a wider build programme
Oman’s 2026 health budget is about RO1 billion, the Ministry of Health said at a media briefing in February, Muscat Daily reported. At that briefing the ministry said more than 11 health infrastructure projects were completed in 2025, including the Central Public Health Laboratory, Khasab Reference Hospital and Suwaiq Hospital, that more than 15 projects were under implementation for 2026 and 2027, and that more than 20 further developments were planned. Projects listed for 2026 and 2027 included a health centre in Dibba and Bausher Health Centre.
Minister of Health Dr Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti said at the same briefing that Oman is building an integrated system of preventive, curative and rehabilitative care across all governorates, and that decentralisation would let institutions at governorate level deliver specialised services under unified standards, according to Muscat Daily.
On the day the polyclinic opened, Dr Al Sabti told the 73rd session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean in Cairo that countries should keep investing in resilient health systems built on primary healthcare and universal health coverage, according to a separate ministry statement. He said Oman has kept polio immunisation coverage above 99 per cent, and he called for clear governance frameworks, better interoperability and responsible use of digital technology and artificial intelligence in health systems.
Our reading
- The Healthcare Daily’s reading: the polyclinic puts laboratory, X-ray, dental, physiotherapy, maternal and chronic disease services under one roof for a population of about 34,229, in line with the minister’s stated aim, reported in February, of building integrated preventive, curative and rehabilitative care across all governorates.
- For equipment and service suppliers, each new polyclinic is a fit-out for laboratory, imaging, dental and physiotherapy equipment. The ministry’s statement gives no procurement details, so the value of this one is unknown.
- Home healthcare and elderly care are listed among the polyclinic’s services. Private home care operators may want to watch how far the public sector extends care at home from primary care sites, which the statement does not quantify.
- With a 2026 health budget of about RO1 billion and more than 15 projects under implementation for 2026 and 2027, the ministry’s project pipeline is a continuing source of demand for builders and equipment suppliers in Oman’s public health sector.
