‘Rakshak’ to the rescue; Sanitization Robot to play hero.

Health assisting robot launched by the Central Railways, Mumbai division, to assist in Covid prevention.

THD NewsDesk, Mumbai: Central Railways, Mumbai division launched “Rakshak; the robot” on the 31st of July 2020 to prevent the spread of Coronavirus disease and assist visitors and patients.

On the 31st July 2020 Rakshak, the robot was launched by the Central Railways’ Mumbai division. The robotic machine will act as a healthcare assistant to the hospital staff, it will be able to check a person’s temperature, heart rate, oxygen level, and be able to automatically dispense hand sanitizer.

Shalab Goel, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division presented Rakshak to Dr. Meera Arora, Chief Medical Director of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Byculla.

The robot has been designed and made in house by Kurla Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer, Sunil Bairwa, and his hard-working team.

FEATURES OF “RAKSHAK: THE ROBOT”

The statement of the Central Railways informed that apart from checking a person’s health parameters mentioned above, Rakshak can also deliver necessary things like food and medicines to patients and can act as a two- way communication between patient and doctor. It is efficient in its movements and has a range of operation up to 150 meters. The machine can function up to 6 hours on wifi and bear the maximum weight of 10 kgs on its tray. It can be operated with the android setup of mobile applications with a special ability to capture videos and photos of the patients. 

Rakshak has been developed keeping in mind the increasing number of doctors and nurses getting infected with COVID-19 while treating the infected patients. Recently, the number of COVID related deaths of doctors and nurses have dramatically risen.

The “Rakshak” robot is being addressed as a bliss amidst the pandemic which is not only assisting the healthcare provisioners by curbing the spread of the virus, but also by reducing the man-labor by automatically executing the above-mentioned tasks.
