U.S. implores WHO Chief to summon Taiwan to assembly

• Washington has been scathing of the WHO and its Chief Tedros for its dealing with the pandemic.

THDNewsDesk, GENEVA: On Friday, the U.S. mission in Geneva propelled Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Chief of World Health Organization to summon Taiwan to a significant conference. The body is hosting it in the following week presumed to concentrate on the COVID-19 pandemic.

It stated, “We encourage the WHO to expand its efforts to offer Taiwan increased meaningful cooperation and collaboration with the organization, and this (an invitation to participate) would be a needed step in that direction.”

Washington has been scathing of the WHO and its Chief Tedros for its dealing with the pandemic. It feels that the latter is too intimate to China and intends to retreat.

Supported by the United States, Taiwan has climbed up lobbying this year to participate in the meeting of the WHO’s supervising committee as a spectator, raging China, which demands the democratically-run island as its region.

Taiwan, which was glorified universally for instantly checking the coronavirus, was not summoned to a former assemblage by the same body in May. It granted to put off the argument until later in the year. Western propagandists assume it is unlikely to alter.

At Friday’s news conference the WHO’s Principal Legal Officer Steven Solomon answered to the upcoming meeting of the World Health Assembly: “Taiwanese involvement at the WHO as an observer continues to be a question for member states”. The body has earlier stated it has no requirement to summon Taiwan since members dissent on the island’s participation.

The virtual conference of 194 member states is ready to concentrate on COVID-19 and associated health problems. The WHO supports Taiwan with several health affairs, including the pandemic.

Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO technical lead for COVID-19, describing scientific collaboration with them as “really great”. She stated, “There has been an active, really wonderful exchange with colleagues and scientists from Taiwan’s CDC and others.”
