THD NewsDesk, New Delhi: Addressing the Asia Health 2020 session, Indian Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways, Piyush Goyal expressed his belief in the united global community in fighting COVID. He appreciated how global cooperation had facilitated the process of vaccine development, while simultaneously erasing divisions among people. The world has been actively working to figure out a democratic way of distributing the vaccine that caters to all sections of the world.
Highlighting India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, he focused on how the ideal of self-reliance is being adopted to build the confidence of all Indians. Further, he insisted on the need to work in a PPP model to ensure the effectiveness of the Covid vaccine work. He pushed this point as the health sector alone can not shoulder the responsibility of providing the vaccination of 1.3 billion people. Moreover, he affirmed that the Indian government would guarantee an affordable vaccine to every citizen, once a cost-effective vaccine is developed.
During the meeting, Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman of Medanta emphasised on the role of COVID-19 in reinventing the health industry. Their facility is now dedicated to making affordable and efficient PPEs and ventilators. He further pointed out that India is evolving into a manufacturing hub and deliverer of the best quality of health facilities to the world. India, while taking care of the needs of its citizens, is also providing healthcare products to other countries.
Suhel Seth, Chairman and Managing Partner Counselage underlined the significance of the private healthcare system as it is not possible for the government to develop hospitals like AIIMS for each part of the country. Contradicting the popular opinion, Seth said that the issue of inflated bills is not systemic and is limited to certain private hospitals. Adding to that, he proposed that private healthcare providers revolutionise their system by establishing and re-calibrate, re-examine and rejuvenate its facilities for addressing the trust deficit.
The CII Asia Health 2020 welcomed suggestions and observations from experts of various countries on health and technology in Asia.
