THD NewsDesk, New Delhi: On November 8, Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal congratulated residents of Delhi for beating the Dengue viral fever for the second consecutive year. The CM lauded the citizens for their cooperation and active participation in the 10-week anti-dengue drive. Credits to the effective campaign and preventive measures taken by the municipal corporation, Delhi has had zero dengue-related deaths this year as well. However, 489 people did get infected by the vector disease. He proudly said, “Delhi defeated the mosquito-borne tropical disease for the second year in a row”.

Recently at the “10 Hafte 10 Baje 10 Minute” campaign, he analysed the progress made by Delhi in combating dengue. He noted the considerable drop in from 15,867 in 2015 to 489 in 2020. Moreover, there had occurred 60 dengue-related deaths in 2015 as opposed to zero fatalities this year.

Kejriwal tweeted: “Congratulations Delhi. Your participation and support in the 10-week campaign against dengue have set an example by defeating the disease for the second year in a row. Not a single dengue-related death has been reported this time. Salute to the commitment of the Delhiites.”

On September 6, the Delhi government had commenced the 3-month long campaign. Kejriwal offered to have his house inspected first for any signs of stagnant clean water. Inspired from it, the common man and the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) willingly implemented similar sanitisation drives to check the breeding of mosquitoes. Last year in 2019, committed cooperation from RWAs, religious and cultural associations, ministers and MLAs and public leaders had made the campaign a success. The collective efforts culminated in reducing dengue cases to 2,036 and just two fatalities.
