About the hospital
Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) is in Edgbaston, Birmingham, and is run by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The trust says that when QEHB opened in June 2010 it was the city’s first new acute hospital for 70 years. The site of the main hospital building is also home to the original Queen Elizabeth Hospital, with services spread across the whole site.
According to the trust, the hospital brings together services previously provided at the older Queen Elizabeth Hospital and at the nearby Selly Oak Hospital. The trust states that QEHB has been designated a Level 1 Trauma Centre and that it hosts the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (SRMRC).
