About the hospital
Salford Royal is on Stott Lane in Salford, next to junction 2 of the M602, and is one of four hospitals run by Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA), with The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary and Fairfield General Hospital in Bury. The NCA, formally established on 1 October 2021, brought together Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and says it has around 20,000 staff.
In 2021 the trust described Salford Royal as the major trauma centre for Greater Manchester. Its A&E is open 24 hours a day. Building work on the GBP 68 million James Potter Building started on 22 February 2021. The trust said then that it would include a resuscitation area, five emergency theatres, inpatient beds, diagnostic imaging and a helipad, and act as the hub for high-risk emergency general surgery across Bolton, Salford and Wigan.
