THD Newsdesk, New Delhi: Delhi High Court has remarked that if around 50% of ICU beds reserved in private hospitals for Covid-19 patients are lying vacant, the Aam Aadmi Party government’s decision to retain an 80% ceiling needs to be reviewed immediately.
In a comment offered by the Delhi High Court, it stated that if almost 50% of the ICU beds reserved in the private hospitals for the Covid-19 patients remain to be vacant, the ruling by the Aam Aadmi Party government to retain 80% ceiling needs to be reconsidered shortly.
The high court commented on Wednesday following the given data by a private hospitals’ association that out of 5,081 ICU beds possessed for Covid-19 patients, 2,360 were unoccupied as of Tuesday. The hospitals’ union had challenged the government’s September 12 degree.
Justice Navin Chawla directed the Delhi government to analyze the submissions by applicant “Association of Healthcare Providers” and register its acknowledgment before the following date on December 15.
Throughout the hearing, the Delhi government’s additional standing counsel Sanjoy Ghose requested the court to bring up the matter after ten days as the Covid-19 situation was developing in the national capital. The government would evaluate the position after 10 days.
The state government’s additional counsel said a review would be done if there was a need to continue with the September 12 order by which 33 private hospitals were directed to reserve 80% ICU beds for Covid-19 patients in Delhi, adding that they were only going by precautionary measures.
After going through the data, the high court said: “See the figures. If 50 percent of beds are lying vacant, the decision to reserve 80% beds needs immediate review and not a review after 10 days.”
