THD NewsDesk, New Delhi: Delhi government’s Urban Development Department has addressed the three MCDs to “consider” giving away their hospitals to the Delhi Government. Due to their incompetence to pay their staff and evade “further anguish to medical, paramedical and other staff.”
Delhi Government and civic bodies have been at odds over the past few months over the staff’s failure of wages. In the meantime, staff members at Hindu Rao Hospital have been resisting to obtain their pending salaries. While MCDs claimed that the government had not provided them with their income. The government dismissed the charges and stated that it had given the pending salaries to the corporations.
The Additional Director,(Local bodies) Urban Development Department, addressed to the MCD commissioners in a letter, “Serious concerns have been raised regarding non-payment of salaries/wages/other dues to medical, paramedical and other staff working in Hindu Rao Hospital, Kasturba Hospital and other hospitals of DMCs. It has been mentioned that inability to pay salaries and other dues in time has led to a situation where proper treatment to Covid patients is not being given, and Covid patients are forced to shift from Hindu Rao Hospital to Lok Nayak Hospital of GNCTD for a continuum of medical care.”
The Additional Director also wrote to the MCDs, that two installments of Basic Tax Assignment had been issued. As corporations have their source of revenue, they should ensure adequate provisioning of funds to pay wages.
However, Jai Prakash, North MCD Mayor, stated that the government craves to create anarchy in Delhi by not giving out funds. It will be an advantage for them in the forthcoming corporation elections. The government disapproved of all the allegations.
Amidst the battle of these government bodies, the staff is suffering and lamenting over their distress. The doctors are the backbone of this country. Presently, they are fighting not only with COVID-19 but also the incompetence of the government bodies.
