Thiruvananthapuram: Government Doctors stand in solidarity for a united cause. They have opposed the government’s new mandate to continue deducting the salaries of 6 days in a month. The process has been in continuation for the past six months.
G S Vijayakrishnan, General Secretary, Kerala government medical officers’ association (KGMOA), and president Joseph Chacko said in a statement that the government should invalidate and step back from the new mandate. The government doctors are working tirelessly, day in and day out, with their lives in constant danger.
The KGMOA also demanded the reimbursement of the salaries that have been deducted till now. If not met, the issue would arise and be subjected to strong protests. The office staff also highlighted that at times like this, while other states are facilitating additional benefits for the doctors, this act is condemnable on the part of the government. The Supreme Court has also issued an order as to not make any cuts in the doctors’ salaries.
Ever since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in January, the doctors have been working tirelessly in extreme danger of being a casualty themselves. The government has repeatedly denied requests not to cut down salaries by the doctors, the KGMOA said.
Covid-19 brings with it the nuances of extremities due to the lack of proper medical facilities to endure the pandemic. And at times like this, the shield which has ensured people’s safety even at their own cost, if not treated as they deserve, would be a great injustice to humankind.
