THD NewsDesk, New Delhi: More than 4,000 birds in a poultry farm in Kalwasrirampur mandal died within a span of 48 hours on Sunday and Monday. Panic gripped the locals after they learnt that the bird flu had spread causing tremendous outcomes across the mandal.
This poultry farm was set up by Dasari Swamy, a sarpanch of Peddampet of Kalwasriramur mandal, in five acre in the mandal headquarters at a cost of Rs 5.5 lakh. As reported, last September itself the farm was packed with 4,600 chicks from Tamil Nadu. However, the birds took ill all of a sudden and died leaving the local in pain.
The veterinary doctor Dr Suresh visited the farm to take stock of the situation, upon knowing about the death of birds on such a large scale. After conducting a medical examination, he declared that the chicks died due to Ranikhet disease.
The amount of financial loss along with their unfulfilled expectations of building wealth from the investment made in the farm, left the locals panic about the same. Therefore, Swamy sought the help of the State government since he had suffered a loss of Rs 20 to Rs 22 lakh.
To avoid the spread of the flu, all the dead birds were buried in a huge pit in the poultry farm premises, while those who survived were kept under observation.
